Caramel Macchiato

Good & Gather

We love coffee flavors that are simple and don't kid around. Caramel is one of those flavors and it's a favorite for many coffee lovers out there too. While it is not easy to find a roast that has good caramel flavor there are many blends that people like. So on a grocery run while we wandered down the aisles of Target we found this blend. Decided to bring it home to brew a batch and see if it would be worth spot in our coffee must haves. Here's are our thoughts.

One of the first mentions is this is a Good and Gather Target brand coffee, that's Fair Traded Certified. This was a plus for us since we do try to buy fair trade coffee blends. It's a light roast made with Arabic beans from Latin America. The lighter bean is suppose to let the hints of caramel come through with a medium bodied flavor followed by vanilla to add a creamy flavor to it. Smelling this coffee from the bag had a great caramel aroma to it. While brewing this in our french press the caramel smell grew stronger and some vanilla hints came through in the air. We started sans cream or sugar which we found the caramel flavor to be very overpowering. The vanilla added to it but the caramel flavors overtook the coffee which we did not like. We then added creamer that had no flavor, which we found did not help. Our puzzlement was with the macchiato addition. This really didn't taste at all near a macchiato. We haven't found many coffees that we didn't like but this one wasn't for us at all. The caramel flavor just wasn't right for us. Even with the creamy vanilla hints we decided this was a one time only purchase. If you're up for a light roast with strong caramel flavors though this one is might be for you.
